The enticing sensual aromatic flavour of vetiver transcends the composition. This harmony has a clean sharpness and a sharp effervescent quality that plays beautifully in the landscape of skin scents. Imagine the scene. A gentle river flows through green plains. On the horizon, a rich orange sun rises from behind fluffy clouds. This is not a pastoral painting or a picturesque scene torn from the pages of a literary classic. This is an olfactory memory from Escentric 03. Vetiveryl acetate can be described as a hybrid molecule, half synthetic, half natural. It is a fraction of vetiver oil distilled from Indian grass roots, then ‘crossed’ with acetic acid to remove the bitter and leathery side of the root. Escentric 03 focuses on vetiver acetate in a composition that pays homage to the three roots used in perfume: vetiver, ginger and orris. “I wanted Escentric 03 to bring out the olfactory essence of these roots and show how they harmonise with each other,” says Geza Schoen. Ginger dominates the top note, which is vibrant, green and spicy with lime zest and green pepper. The heart is a rich, velvety orris with Egyptian jasmine and tea. Drydown highlights the complex earthiness of vetiver, along with sandalwood, cedar, soft balsam and musk. The result is a spicy but fresh and elegant chypre with woody, balsamic notes - a heady hit of dark green woodiness over tropical grass, but much softer and smoother.
